This website
originated with the college radio show I had at the University of Wisconsin's WSUM
91.7 FM. After a few name changes, the The Perfect Face for
Radio was born. For three years my co-hosts and I exposed our listeners
to the best in indie music from 6-8 PM Saturday evenings, and
this website was our way of reaching out to our listeners
outside of those two hours on the air. Through the PFFR, we got
the chance to interview amazing bands like the Heavenly States,
31 Knots, the Natural History, Single Frame, and Cursive on the
air. Upon finishing grad school and moving to Chicago in May 2004, I began DJ training anew at
community radio station WLUW 88.7 FM and got myself a new
one-hour show in January 2005 that aired from 5-6 AM every
Friday morning. From there I moved to the (slightly) more desirable 6-8am Tuesday morning drive-time slot, where I spent almost two years on the air. Starting in 2007, however, you'll find me at my new time, 8-10pm Monday nights, where I plan on staying for a very long time. Feel free to check out my other music-related activities, Tiny Mix Tapes and Radio Free Chicago. Thanks for
listening! If you have any comments or qualms about anything you
see here, please
email me
your thoughts.
After growing up
in the 'burbs of Minneapolis, Liz looked to find new adventures
across the border- in Wisconsin. While attending the University
of Wisconsin-Madison, she found some cool friends who had some
damn good taste in music. Four years passed. After getting
herself all good and educated, Liz decided it was time to get
some more education and head out to law school out
west in Portland, Oregon. To her parents dismay, a deciding factor on moving to the
west coast was its awesome music scene (not to mention proximity
to the beach and the mountains). Besides the whole music thing,
Liz is fascinated with Constitutional Law. Her favorite Supreme
Court Justice is David Souter and her favorite world leader is
Tony Blair (she claims he can really pull off the purple tie).
While many believe Liz just sits around, reading one of her two
pocket constitutions, she actually does get out occasionally,
often to sip her drinks of choice: white russians and anything
with whiskey. Liz was sadly missed, but luckily a new co-host
turned up in the form of . . .
Jonathan "DJ Lazer"
Rockey was born in a suburb of Chicago, Highwood, IL, and
resided there for the first 18 years of his life. His happy
childhood contained many trips to roller skating rinks
accompanied by popular American (US) and African dance music.
During his early teens, he grew distant to music, calling
popular music nothing but uninteresting, commercial mish-mash
until a fateful afternoon, during advisory period freshman year
of high school, in which he was introduced to the Chemical
Brothers and Daft Punk. The mind-blowing experienced that
followed sent him on an endless quest for new,
perception-expanding music. As for his college experience, he
stumbled through the very hip Wisconsin Union Directorate Music
and Entertainment Committee, as well as their equally hip
newsletter, the Emmie, before a bizarre Union-X-men-WHAM! chance
encounter with neophilic Nicole. DJ Lazer brought new fans to
the show with his interest in electronic music and comic books,
and after Nicole moved to Chicago, he continued to broadcast the
Perfect Face for Radio for one last summer with a new feature:
the PFFR Adventure Story Hour. Eventually DJ Lazer up and
gradumuated, and now he lives in New York City, where he studies
genetics at Columbia University.
